Northern Cairngorms Workshop
Reach into the living landscape of the Northern Cairngorms in this immersive and creative workshop, accompanied by Ed’s creative input and professional eye as he guides you with expansive knowledge of his local wilderness.
Photograph light and movement as it glows through ancient forests and follow the flowing burns as they tumble down from the granite monoliths looming above. As you capture the essence of what it means to be amongst this living and ever-changing landscape, you will advance your photography skills and deep dive into creating a powerful narrative with your pictures.
From an all-inclusive accommodation base in Kingussie you will be guided through inspiring and evocative locations in the Northern Cairngorms, taking in the fresh light and colour of spring. Alongside Ed’s accomplished and specialist insight, two of the course days include the addition of a mountain leader to support access to more remote locations.

Camera Equipment & Outdoor Kit List
Camera: An interchangeable lens camera which you are familiar with. The more familiar you are with it the better as this will allow you to focus on creativity and developing your vision behind the lens.
Lenses: Ed often uses 15-35mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses. So variations of lenses covering these (not necessary all) focal lengths will be excellent! However it might be that you have one lens, such as a 24-105mm, which is a perfect range to work within amongst the landscape.
Tripod: A sturdy tripod is certainly worth it’s weight in capturing pin sharp images! And you’ll go away with some tips and tricks for keeping it steady on the windy days.
Camera bag/backpack: A comfortable camera pack (backpack) is essential for keeping all your gear safe on the hill whilst also carrying the likes of your own insulated and waterproof layers.
Misc: Most importantly spare batteries and spare memory cards! Please also bring multiple lens cloths, a pocket-rocket blower, any wet weather protection for your camera (handy but not essential) and a means of remote release camera operation (either physical cable or bluetooth operation), a small carabiner and a 1.5m length of para-cord or string.
Outdoor gear: Comfortable (and well worn-in!) hiking boots. Multiple insulated layers and jackets, waterproof jacket and over-trousers, 2x warm hats, 2 pairs of insulated (ideally leather palmed) mountain gloves, multiple pairs of hiking socks, head torch, ski goggles (don’t need to be expensive, just to cover the eyes in case of any snow storms!), walking poles if you use them, a foam pad for sitting on.
